Hi there!
I hope you had a good week.
I’m so excited for the next week because of the holidays awaiting. I used to be even more excited when I was posted in Bengal because Durga Puja meant week long holiday with pandal hopping around the city.
I have a small trip planned coming week. So that’s an added excitement.
This week went as usual. Thankfully I got back to yoga that I missed for a week because of so much travelling. Now I’ve started to enjoy the whole process and especially because I can get some time for myself in the morning. Otherwise with work and a baby it can get overwhelming to find any time for yourself.
I often get a lot of queries regarding time management and how am I able to take time out for myself. Frankly I only noticed when a lot of people asking me about the same otherwise it is the most natural thing to do.
So here are a few things that have contributed immensely to keep me sane-
Firstly I think the support from family is very important. I have family from home helping with the baby and that is the most important reason I am able to work without constantly worrying.
Secondly I make it a conscious decision everyday to devote time for myself, primarily to the things that I love doing. It changes every day, some days I’m in mood to read and some other day I want to finish a painting.
Thirdly I have a constant urge to make at least some part of my day productive. I do not believe for every second to be productive but a few hours have to be there when my mental peace should allow for good efficiency to occur and that’s the time I devote the work that requires deep attention and is not mundane.
Lastly, since last two years, I have really become pro at multi tasking. Combining reading or say painting with sitting around with the baby is something that I’m able to do easily now for atleast sometime.
Normally maximum part of the day is unplanned but I love to have some part of it to be planned and go exactly as I want it to for me to feel good about it.
Also, since the time I have started exercising regularly I have started to feel that my general mood remains uplifted almost throughout the day. So I am happy about this addition to my morning routine.
I hadn’t mentioned earlier when I was in Shimla last week I got myself a subscription to the government library there and I was astounded to see the best of collections with them. I literally spent hours at the library and finally picked a few books that I want to be able to finish this month hopefully.
It brought back so many memories from school when I last had a library card. I like the concept of a library subscription more than owning each and every book cover for myself mostly because my job is transferable and sometimes the books get damaged in the travel and then it breaks my heart.
Anyway, I am reading this lovely book called The Book thief by Markus Zusak. I’m half way through but I’ll talk more about in the next letter.
Have a good weekend.
