Hello,
I hope you had a good week.
I’ve had really lovely few days with family. This is probably the first time in years that I could participate in a family re-union of the sorts where I could stay for more than a day.
One always misses the time one has spent with cousins as a child. I have lots of cousins and my childhood summer vacations were all about playing in the mud and growing up with them. We used to look forward to our school holidays so much for the sheer joy of each others company. The afternoons used to be sitting in a room and watching the movie that’s used to be playing on the cable channel and sometimes requesting the cable operator for a particular movie of choice.
The evening used to about playing outdoors and mostly in the mud.
This was probably the first time since all of us met as grown ups for an event other than a wedding. Oh! It’s so comfortable and lovely to be spending time with the people you have grown up with.
Do you have such childhood memories with family/cousins ?
As one moves out for college the participation in such events drops down and one has to make a real conscious effort to be actively participating, mostly because everyone is at a different stage in life. Some are studying, some have young kids to handle and while others are tied up with work commitments.
But if each member is equally committed to making a reunion happen it can really be a magical moment for emotional well being and a beautiful reminder of how time flies.
We always feel that it was only yesterday that we were the ones playing make-believe games and running around building our clay houses all afternoon.
I’ve had the sheer opportunity to be spending a lot of time outdoors when I was a kid. I would call it an opportunity now because the internet and the now nuclear families have inevitably invaded that space.
I remember playing around a lot in the mud and trees. And those are the moments we still cherish when we get together.
And now I try and make a conscious effort for my daughter to have similar experiences.
What’s your favourite childhood memory?
Whenever the extended family gets together there is always so much talk, laughter and food. And the late nights, oh! these are the only late nights that I love.
One of my cousin’s remarked that there is so much happy chaos that it almost feels like a Big Boss house. There is always so much to share and remember by.
This time we all sadly parted with nostalgia and a loved heart and a promise to meet more frequently.
Here are the pictures that come close to recreating my childhood days.
PS: song that I encountered this week and loved.
