Hello,
I hope you are doing good.
It’s been a while since I got back to writing mostly because I was travelling a lot last 2 months and more importantly I was also losing the motivation to write weekly. So this year I’m thinking I’ll try at least fortnightly, first and last Saturday. What do you think?
I also got some messages on Instagram prodding me to write, so thank you very much for showing an interest in my otherwise boring life.
December for me was a very happening month in the sense a lot happened in December in terms of activities and places.
But more on that later,
This year like all the other years since my school days I’ve made myself a list of resolutions saved on my phone that I shall try and abide by.
I was reading somewhere of the most common resolutions that people make and it includes to lose weight, quit smoking ,exercise more, learn a new skill et all.
The list goes on and you would be sure to find your resolutions among those which people around the world commit themselves to.
Before I share some of what I have thought of for myself, I was just pondering on what is it that is about new years resolutions that suddenly one is motivated. May be its the chance to start afresh of all the things that we have been putting in the back burner.
As for me I really love this concept because it definitely gives me a new rigour snd mind you, I do end up following on alteast a few of my commitments to myself. Last year it was regarding reading more and I ended up outdoing my expectations considering the time that I have. So this year reading shall definitely continue to be at the top of my lists.
(Many a times I get asked of the app that I use. I use Goodreads app a lot for keeping a track of my reading goals as well as following my favourite authorisers and book suggestions and reviews.)
My other resolutions are certainly less fancy as eating healthy and having an exercise regime that I am still to start considering the winters in Himachal Pradesh.
To keep myself on track and motivated regarding my habits, I’m reading this book currently called the Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg.
I’ll just share an interning observation in the book from the first few chapters I’ve read.
The books delves on the habit loop and talks about the concept of cue and craving. To illustrate the same take for example one targets on exercising more, the likelihood that you will step out and go for exercise is much more if you have set yourself a cue which could be something like keeping the shoes ready near the bed and dedicating a designated time for the activity for example the first thing after I wake up.
One tends to lose oversight if one has a general target like exercise more and so we generally do not find the time because most of the time we haven’t thought of when we shall do it.
And the craving would be what comes after successfully completion of the task, in this case it could be the endorphins or the sense of achievement of having run a certain kilometers.
Anyway, if such things interest you, I would recommend this book to you.
I’ve set myself some fun targets also this year which also upskilling for a skill that I’m still to think of but again the endeavour of self improvement continues like any other year.
2023 was a wonderful year personally and professionally for me, hoping coming year is equally good.
On this note, do share your thoughts on what new year resolutions have you set yourself to and does the concept of how a habit is formed interest you?
But also Have a great weekend and also listen to this song I’m sharing!
