Hello,
I hope you had a good week so far.
Mine had gotten really busy with work and travel and especially because we also have working Saturday this week.
Anyway, I wanted to share this destination with you since I had visited it and head it on my mind to write about it. Have you heard of a place called Kala Top?
It’s a place near Dalhousie around 12 kms from there, in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh.
The last time I wrote about Chamba and a few of you reached out with some really good recommendations of places that I haven’t visited yet. And I’m glad for that for I’ve kept a note of those places as well.
Moving on, Kala Top is a famous wildlife sanctuary near Dalhousie. The whole area is quite surreal. The road to reach the Kala Top forest guest house is a bridle path and therefore a little jerky but taxis are stationed with expert drivers to ferry you towards the end of the road. It’s right in the middle of deep forest and the whole time one feels like one is on a Jungle Safari.
The weather was beautiful this particular day and we just wanted to visit the guest house to see the location of which a few people had suggested us. The whole time the clouds were touching the skin.
The guest house wasn’t the final destination though and to our surprise we found a small dhaba nestled away near the guest house selling Maggi, home food and chai. We were relieved as it was almost lunch time and we were famished.
The area around the guest house was adorned with the choicest of Hydrangeas and a huge snail was also spotted. There was also a souvenir shop in the premise.
The name made me wonder why the place is called Kala top and on inquiry it was found out that it is because of the dense Black Forest cover on this highest hill top in the sanctuary that the name is such- kala top viz black cover. One is surrounded by Deodar trees.
Even though we could not spot any animals but the forest is home to wild animals like Himalayan Black bear, pheasants , leopard, bear etc.
The place can best be explored with short treks to enjoy its pristine beauty. Since the whole area around is thickly forested hence outside construction is minimal and one could hear the sound birds all along the way.
There are a one or two rest houses at the top with nominal rates. The place does not have good network but it can be chosen a good getaway site if one wants to truly enjoy being in the lap of the nature.
Do you have such hidden gems in your city as well that truly beautiful but relatively unexplored?
Here are a few pictures from the place.
Really liked the nature...
