Hello,
I hope the week has been treating you well.
My week has just been the usual one divided between work and home.
I was just cleaning out my cupboard the other day and I cam across a few items that are with me purely because of the sentimental value that they hold for me. I’m a big hoarder of small items from any trip. How about you?
From amongst the things that I am most likely keep and preserve are the boarding passes reminding me of the place that I once visited including the date and the time.
From a restaurant that I would have visited I might surely have scribbled or doodled on a napkin while being there and then would have sneaked that in my bag as a memory of the place.
I am also a hoarder of sea shells and pebbles from the place, if it has a beach.
Ferns and leaves if it’s the mountains.
Occasionally while reading a book I would come across the flowers or leaves I would have gathered from some place. The latest fetch from a recent trip being lotus and water lilies.
Whenever I go for a trek I am sure to gather some slate pieces, some wild flowers and once I even found a porcupine quill too.
Does it ever happen with you? Do you get these small items from places that you visit just for the sake of pure joy that it would instil in you many years later?
I’ve already mentioned once that I always look for places selling post cards. And end up writing a few for my friends while still at the trip. Sometimes I’ve had my friends sharing my a photograph of the scribbles I did for them while we were on a trip together specially from school and college. Oh! Such it brings back such sweet memories. For me and I am sure for them too.
Do try to take postcards from places that you visit, you might enjoy writing one or two for your friends or family. I did that from all the places that I visited during the famous Bharat Dharshan during our training days. More popularly known as the Winter Study Tour.
I have kept a separate memory box for all these sentimental souvenirs of mine.
I just put all theses miscellaneous items in that box and every once in a while when I come across the box, the whole thing brings back such sweet nostalgia.
We have totally undermined the value of little soveniours these days. The joy of getting fridge magnets and key chains that someone gets for you is unmatchable.
While this was a trend in the 90s to get your family and friends small items like key chains and fridge magnets, sadly they’ll not in vogue these days.
Have you gotten such items for others or gotten one from someone?
Do you still treasure it ?
Do share your thoughts , I would love to hear.
Sharing a picture of some of the postcards that I keep handy with me.
